Our Review
A Candlelight Christmas was a pleasant journey through an assortment of Christmas favorites, old and new. I don't hear many brass arrangements. This record featured both brass and piano, giving the work a classical elegance.
I liked that the producers never felt the need to pretend to jazzy arrangements to make their point, even when some of the material might have lent itself to such an approach, such as Vince Guaraldi's Christmastime Is Here, or the Carpenters' Merry Christmas, Baby. The arrangements were straightforward, contemporary classical throughout.
The other notable aspect was the completeness of this extended set, which featured a nice selection of traditional favorites as well as offering a good sampling of contemporary seasonals. At just over an hour, this collection will be a worthwhile addition to many Christmas collections this year.
