Our Review

Gailforce is essentially the force of two; Gail Delagi-Biggs and Tina Gordon form the vocal duet that presents these easy-listening holiday tunes. The duo has been charming fans in the central Florida area for years, and Christmas with the Girls is their seasonal showcase. The album largely contains well-familiar holiday standards, but also includes two lesser-known pieces and one brand new number (Home in My Heart for Christmas by Donna Fant & Eric Todd).

The unlikely story behind the harmonizing pair is worth noting. In 1993, Gail was performing solo when she heard Tina singing along in the crowd. Gail invited Tina on stage, and the two have been singing together ever since. Here, talented studio musicians provide tasteful support, nicely rounding out the group.

The two women (apparently known as "The Girls" to their fans) have voices that complement each other relatively well; each remains distinct without overshadowing the other. One voice , Tina's, is slightly lighter and sweeter than the other; together, the blended sound is pop with a country edge, and they occasionally push an intensity that recalls the Indigo Girls.

The holiday standards all ring true here. Of these, my favorite is probably Silver Bells, a piece that successfully conveys the warmth, intimacy, and gentle pleasures of Christmas. For me, O Holy Night provides the album's most effective harmonies; I came close to jumping on board myself.

Thanks, Gailforce, for blowing into town this holiday season.
