Our Review

Continuing to play through his collection of "vintage, exotic and just plain unusual musical instruments," Gregg Miner has put together the second volume of his unique offering, A Christmas Collection. (Have a look at my review of the first volume, A Christmas Collection, Volume One.)

My favorite track on this recording (and it is difficult to pick favorites, I can assure you) is his arrangement of Angels We Have Heard on High, played played primarily on chitarrone.

There is much beautiful music on this CD, played on many fine instruments I had never heard or heard of. In addition to his fine harp-guitar work, Mr. Miner plays guitar, banjo, dobro, ukulele, cello, mandolin, chitarrone, viola da gamba, tromba marina, koto, shakuhachi, sitar, tambura, esraj, tabla, ouz, saz, middle east drums, oboe and dudak.

Both volumes include detailed picture books describing the history and use of every instrument used on every song.

What a rare set of recordings.
