Our Review

Tracy Thornton has produced the definitive steel pan and percussive Christmas CD. His mastery of his instrument is complete. Pan fans will appreciate the clarity of his strikes and the wide range of moods present on this effort.

Although there were a number of lighthearted numbers (All I want for Christmas comes to mind), I enjoyed how he applied his instruments to the more serious music, particularly Silver Bells and The Christmas Song. The contrasting mood of these songs made his mellow pan tones all the more effective for me. Christmas music fans will also be pleased to hear that this CD was produced almost completely by the musicianship of Tracy Thornton (the jacket lists about a dozen percussion instruments played by Thornton), using no synthetic noises whatsoever. His ability to remain true to his artistic vision is commendable.
