Our Review

Merry X-Mas Dammit is a hard-driving Christmas rock crime spree with a perverse sense of humor and an interesting array of talented entertainers. Billed as the "ultimate clubhouse for the lunatic fringe," the Double Down Saloon's stage is home to punk rock 'n rollers, funky country bands, and lounge singers. The sound is edgy, sometimes funny, and hardcore X-rated.

Although this album is definitely not for everyone, anyone who is sick of bland, predictable mall music and fond of outrageous rock-powered vibes will likely give this album a big "thumbs up." I liked the Lonsome Spurs' countrified Jingle Bells and laughed out loud at Richard Cheese's Christmas in Las Vegas (describing the town as "Bethlehem with BLING"). The Dirty Panties, a raucous all-girl punk group, races through a unique interpretation of Santa Baby, and Thee Swank Bastards close the album with the instrumental Carol of the Bells/God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen, heavy with reverb and propulsive bass lines.

Merry X-Mas Dammit is a gritty brew for the lunatic fringe and adventurous others who long to play the slots in Vegas this Christmas. Keep in mind that the Double Down Saloon never closes, so you will always have a place to hang your hat and spill your beer.

From the liner notes:

Executive Producers: P Moss & Darran Wells

Known the world over as the Happiest Place On Earth, the Double Down Saloon has been bringing a much needed sophistication to Law Vegas since 1992. Home of the fabled Ass Juice. Brithplace of the Bacon Martini. Interplanetary abstract. Urban decay. The ultimate clubhouse for the lunatic fringe, where celebrations such as Pastramikah and White Trash Xmas bring out the true spirit of the season with such holiday traditions as free haircuts, Spaghettios in the coffee pot, and corn in the Ass Juice. All the bands featured on this album are frequent performers on the mighty Double Down stage. So from all of them and from all of us, we wish everyone a very... MERRY CHRISTMAS DAMMIT.

WE NEVER CLOSE

Live music. Pool. Pinball. Asteroids. Hot chicks. Bums, punks, hipsters, bohemians, rockabilly greasers and regular joes. Touring bands and Hollywood types kicking back away from the tourists. Always expect the unexpected.
